Medicare Eligibility Medicare is a system in the US in which the government pays part of the cost of medical treatment for people who are over 65 years old, or under 65 but having certain disabilities or End-Stage Renal Failure (kidney disease that requires dialysis or transplantation.) If you are one of those people you are eligible to enroll in Medicare program. If you not receive Social Security Benefits, you need to apply for Medicare enrollment ninety days prior you turn 65. Thus you will ensure that the effective date of you coverage will not be delayed. You can also apply for Social Security Benefits at this time. If you already get Social Security Benefits, you can join Medicare Part A and B automatically once it is your 65th birthday. Ninety days prior to your birthday you should be mailed the Medicare card. In the card you will find some instructions which are needed if you want to refuse Part B coverage. Information Required To Enroll In Medicare If you prove to be eligible to enroll in Medicare, you will need to gather some information related to your health. To join Medicare you need to provide personal documentation on your current health care and/or prescription drug coverage. It is needed to determine whether your present coverage will work with Medicare. Selecting A Medicare Plan There are several Medicare Plans such as Part A, Part B, Part C, and Part D. In order to choose the plan which will be best for you, you need to consider all you future needs. It's a good idea to make a list of the drugs you use, the coverage you want to have, the upper limit of premium you will be able to pay in order to see clear picture of what you need and what you can afford. This will help you to compare and choose the Medicare plan that will best meet your future needs. Additional Programs Medicare does not cover all medical expenses. Co-payments, co-insurance, deductibles, or services not covered by a Medicare plan are not included in the coverage. However, there are several other programs intended to help people in need. Medicaid, for example, is a system of government health care designed to cover the needs of poor people of the US. There are other programs, and you may be eligible for some of them. This means that you can reduce your health care worries by maximizing your coverage. |
